Description
Introducing the Vespulure LiquiTrap — a high-capacity, reusable wasp & hornet trap designed to be used with Vespulure liquid (sold separately). Made following the design principles of the IPS Liquibaitor (lid + lure cage + bucket with funnel entrance), this trap gives you flexibility, durability, and targeted control over wasp pests — including the newly emerging threat of the Asian hornet (Vespa velutina) in Ireland.
Features & Design:
-
Two-part construction: a top lid with a lure cage (to suspend the attractant securely) and a lower funnel-bucket body to hold liquid and trap insects.
-
Made from tough, weather-resistant plastic, with smooth surfaces for easy cleaning and long service life.
-
Transparent or semi-transparent walls to monitor fluid levels and trapped insects easily.
-
Funnel entrance designed to reduce escape, increasing capture efficiency.
How to Use & Best Time in Ireland:
-
This is trap only; attractant should be purchased separately. Use a carbohydrate-rich lure (such as Vespulure liquid) for best results.
-
We recommend deploying between July and September in Irish climates. By this period, wasps have generally completed pollinating, and their behaviour shifts to seeking sugars and carbohydrates in preparation for the end of their life cycles. That’s when traps are most effective.
-
Though the trap has not undergone rigorous lab testing specifically for the Asian hornet in Ireland, field observations suggest performance is similar for Asian hornets and common wasp species (common wasp Vespula vulgaris, German wasp Vespula germanica).
Placement & Maintenance:
-
Hang around 1.5 to 3 metres high, away from areas where people sit or dine (e.g. patios, picnic spots).
-
Place around the perimeter of your garden or outdoor space, especially near hedges, woodland edges, or refuse bins — typical forage routes.
-
Check fluid levels every few days; when full or fluid degraded, empty, clean, refill.
-
With proper care, the trap can last many seasons.
