Reusable wasp & hornet trap (trap only) for use with separate attractant. Durable, easy to clean, ideal for use July-September. Effective against common wasps and, based on field data, also Asian hornets.

Description

The Mini Vespu Trap is a robust, reusable wasp-and-hornet trap designed to work with a separate attractant such as Vespulure liquid attractant (or equivalent), this trap offers durable design, ease of use, and targeted control of wasps — including the Asian hornet, which is a relatively new and growing concern in Ireland.

Key features:

  • Made from durable, transparent plastic with a vented lid for safe usage around children and pets.

  • Easy to clean, reuse, and refill — meaning you can use the same trap season after season.

  • Suitable hang height: approx. 1.5-3 metres, hung from trees, rafters, beam‐structures etc., away from human activity.

  • Large capacity: can hold sufficient volume of fluid attractant plus trapped insects, making it effective for areas with moderate to high wasp activity.

Using with Attractant / Best Practices in Ireland:

  • This trap does not come with attractant. Attract and trap separately — this gives you flexibility to use Vespulure liquid (or your preferred attractant).

  • We recommend using this trap from July through September. By then, wasps (including Vespula vulgaris and Vespula germanica) have usually finished pollination and shift behaviour to seeking carbohydrate-rich food. This is also when Asian hornets, if present, are more likely to show foraging behaviour that makes trapping effective.

  • Although the product has not been rigorously laboratory-tested specifically for the Asian hornet (Vespa velutina), preliminary field data & comparative performance show similar effectiveness in trapping them as with more common wasps.

Placement & Maintenance:

  • Hang traps around the perimeter of your garden or area to be protected—preferably away from eating / sitting areas.

  • Avoid placing traps directly downwind of locations that attract wasps (e.g. bins, compost, overripe fruit).

  • Regularly refill attractant; when fluid is exhausted or trap is full, carefully empty, clean, then refill.

  • Trap lifespan: many traps will last multiple years with proper care.
