Sustainability of Darac Museum Cases
From conception of our cases, we at Darac work with sustainability in mind. For most institutions a museum showcase is a significant capital expenditure, and therefore an extended lifespan is of utmost importance.
To this end, all cases are designed not only with longevity of function but also of form, working with classic neutral colours and designs. This ensures that no matter the exhibit or artefact held within the case, and no matter the context of the gallery, the designs do not detract from the curatorial aspiration for the exhibition.
All parts of our cases have an expected minimum lifespan of 25 years, and each part can be recycled individually should the case eventually reach its end of life or simply no longer be required. It is more likely our showcases could be repurposed within the existing institution or to another.
Table Showcase - Leg base
This style of display case combines ease of access with a sleek, minimalist design. Featuring a shallow canopy, it is ideal for showcasing smaller displays while maintaining a refined and understated appearance.
Supported by four individual legs, these cases are lighter in construction compared to enclosed designs, making them easier to position and adapt to various exhibition layouts. The open framework also ensures wheelchair accessibility, enhancing inclusivity for all visitors.
Popular in settings with a minimalist aesthetic, these display cases strike the perfect balance between functionality and modern elegance, offering a versatile solution for highlighting smaller artefacts or collections.
Table Showcase - Open Base
Thoughtfully designed to balance practicality with visual appeal, open-base showcases offer enhanced accessibility while maintaining a stable and refined display. The open-base design allows for easier access for wheelchair users, ensuring inclusivity and compliance with accessibility standards.
Despite their sleek and open structure, these cases provide a robust foundation to support a medium-height canopy, making them suitable for a variety of exhibit types. This thoughtful combination of functionality and aesthetics ensures that open-base showcases are as welcoming as they are stable, meeting the needs of both visitors and curators alike.
Table Showcase - Closed base
Freestanding showcases are a popular choice for creating solid divisions within exhibition areas or for positioning alongside walls. Their sturdy design serves as both a display solution and a spatial organiser, seamlessly integrating into diverse exhibition layouts.
These showcases feature an enclosed base, which not only supports a deeper canopy for larger or more intricate displays, but also provides convenient under-storage for supplementary items or exhibition accessories. For added functionality, an option to include hidden castors transforms these substantial cases into manoeuverable units, allowing them to be repositioned with ease despite their size and weight.
Combining practicality, flexibility, and a refined aesthetic, closed base showcases are an ideal solution for exhibitions requiring versatile displays that double as structural elements within the space.
Freestanding Cases
These display cases are designed with flexibility in mind, offering configurations with or without shelves to suit a wide range of exhibition requirements. When supplied without shelving, they are ideal for showcasing larger or taller items, such as textiles or other vertical displays, allowing the focus to remain on the exhibit itself.
For cases equipped with adjustable-height glass shelves, the design takes on a strikingly modern appeal. The shelves, supported by discreet suspension wires, appear to “float” within the case, creating an elegant, unobstructed view. This multi-level display solution not only enhances visibility but also provides an organised yet captivating way to showcase multiple items simultaneously.
Whether displaying intricate artefacts, bold textiles, or multi-tiered arrangements, these adaptable cases seamlessly combine functionality with aesthetic sophistication.
Modular Option
For increased sustainability and versatility, this style of case can be modular, with an option of delivery either fully assembled, or for those harder to access areas, they can be assembled on site. Should future exhibitions necessitate, the showcases can then be reconfigured and adjusted for different purposes.
Wall Mounted Cases
Wall-mounted showcases deliver the same level of security as traditional display cases while utilizing vertical space efficiently by being securely fixed at a 90° angle to a solid wall. This design not only saves floor space but also creates a visually striking presentation, allowing exhibits to be displayed at eye level for optimal viewing.
These versatile showcases have been used to highlight a wide range of items, including delicate ephemera, treasured sports memorabilia, rare books, intricately crafted wooden carvings, and significant religious artifacts. One particularly unique example is their use to exhibit an Emu Egg Clock—demonstrating their ability to accommodate both everyday and extraordinary objects.
With their combination of robust security and aesthetic appeal, wall-mounted showcases are an excellent choice for museums, galleries, and private collections, offering a stylish and space-saving solution for preserving and showcasing valuable items.
