Darac, The Old Railway Station, Newbliss, Monaghan, Ireland.

Founded by husband and wife Patrick & Lorraine Martin, Darac is a family run business which has evolved out of our initial model making company. Most acclaimed of these are the reconstruction models of a Crannóg, a Court Tomb and the Black Pigs Dyke, on display since 1983 in Monaghan County Museum, which is where Patrick started his career as assistant technician. These formative years have been invaluable in the framing of objects, artefacts and in particular the know-how of handling work for conservation purposes.

Over the past twenty five years of framing, both in London and here in Ireland, we have framed an eclectic mix of items, from an original Monet to a pair of Y Fronts, and for a truly varied selection of customers such as, Ford, Inland Revenue, British Gas, Paramount Pictures, BT, RTE, Parker Pen, Dublin & Shannon Airport, No.10 Downing St., Museums, Hotels, Councils, Churches, Schools, Banks, Credit Unions, Clubs, Photographers, Artists and numerous private clients including  TV & movie personalities.

More recently, re-framing and hanging the Percy French Collection of water colours and memorabilia for Cavan County Museum. Suitably and tastefully framed the collection now has structure and uniformity, and of course framed to full museum standards it will be enjoyed and protected for future generations.  For Monaghan County Museum’s  ‘From a Whisper to a Roar’ exhibition,  we had the pleasure of framing a selection of ephemera relating to Monaghan at the time of the 1916 rebellion

As dedicated conservation framers, we offer a complete framing service, from full museum and conservation to standard level. With our unrivalled portfolio of frames and mouldings we are able to give experienced, objective and unpretentious advice making recommendations that will work within specified budgets.

Continuously evolving, combining our acquired knowledge and years of experience we have designed a range of museum and gallery display cases, made here in Ireland.  Supplied to Cavan County Museum for their ‘World War 1’ exhibition, The Inniskillings Museum, for their temporary displays and outreach projects and for Kerry County Museum  designed and supplied for the  ‘Casement in Kerry’ exhibition.

We also supply display lighting and hanging systems, signs and information panels, archival storage products and equipment.

Living History at our converted Railway Station ... ‘we live, work, rest and play history

Close to our hearts is our impact on nature, the environment and the wild life that surround our home and business. We have personally created a wild flower meadow and each year plant more native trees, hedgerows, fruits and berries preserving and building on the wildlife habitat that has existed here for hundreds years.

The Italian Connection !

Italian frame mouldings are renowned for their old world craftsmanship and artistic sensibilities.

One of the perks of our job is our yearly buying trip to Italy.  Darac is one of a few Irish frame makers to import directly. Every year we go shopping for the most recent frame styles and innovations. It’s a dirty job but somebody has to do it.

All work is carried out in our own workshop
